About

Jo Cooper works with textiles as a way of recording the quiet, everyday stories that shape our lives. Her practice centres on the belief that materials carry their own histories: by using foraged materials, found and pre‐used fabrics, the invisible memories held within their fibres become part of the work.

After studying Fine Art at UEL, Jo paused her making for several years before returning to focus on using textiles in 2020, finding a medium that was both accessible and full of stories.

She has since studied Textile Foundation and Advanced Textiles at Morley College, and Advanced Textiles at City Lit, expanding her understanding of material processes and slow making.

Jo’s work reflects a curiosity about how we move through the world — how we remember, how we hold onto things, and how cloth can become a vessel for thought, emotion and lived experience.

Jo’s early career as a stage manager continues to influence her approach to scale and storytelling.
